Vocational Training Driving the Energy Future: My Latest Talk at ISMAB Barcelona, with Fenie Energía.

Today, I returned to the Institute for Sustainability and the Environment (ISMAB) in Barcelona to lead another session for students in vocational training programs (CFGM and CFGS) focused on energy, water, renewables, and the management of utility networks and facilities. Once again, the response was extraordinary—marked by genuine interest, active participation, and a clear understanding that vocational training is a direct pathway into the job market.

My message was straightforward: Vocational training graduates in the energy sector are in high demand among companies in the field. The energy transition, electrification, the digitalization of infrastructure, and efficient resource management are driving an increasing need for qualified technicians. And the students at ISMAB are in exactly the right place.

Vocational Training as a Gateway to the Energy Job Market
I explained to the students what companies in this sector value most:

The technical proficiency gained through vocational training.

The ability to adapt quickly to new technologies.
A practical mindset and experience in real-world environments.
Versatility in working with energy and fluid systems.
Within this ecosystem, one organization stands out for its commitment to the profession: Fenie Energía.

Fenie Energía: Companies That Believe in Vocational Training and the Essential Role of the Installer
I spoke to them about the role of Fenie Energía—a company formed by installers from across Spain and supported by its own foundation—which works to elevate, promote, and strengthen the profession of energy and fluid systems installers.

Their message is clear and compelling: The installer is essential to society. Without them, there is no energy transition, no efficiency, and no genuine sustainability.

Companies affiliated with Fenie Energía are looking for well-trained, motivated technical professionals with a desire to grow—and the students at ISMAB are a perfect fit for that demand. A sector in need of young talent
HVAC, domestic hot water (DHW) systems, renewable energy, water management, energy efficiency, and advanced installations are more than just concepts—they represent real jobs, real projects, and real careers.

My talk served as an invitation for students to:

Have confidence in their training.
Seize opportunities within the sector.
Continue their professional growth through ongoing education.
Connect with companies like those that make up Fenie Energía.
Vocational training (FP) is not an “alternative” path; it is the gateway to professions that are essential to the country.
