I recently had the privilege of living a unique experience at the Mas d’Enric Penitentiary Center. As someone who had never before entered an institution of this nature, the opportunity to give a conference on training and the world of work in Spain was both exciting and challenging.
The moment for the Center was especially delicate, since just a few weeks earlier a tragic incident had shaken its facilities. Despite initial doubts, the professionalism of the educational teams at the center and my firm commitment to transmit the values of vocational training, regardless of the situation, allowed us to move forward with the project agreed upon months before.
From the moment I walked through the doors and passed the countless security checks, I was greeted with genuine respect and gratitude by both the inmates and the professionals at the center. It was a welcome that showed that, beyond the circumstances, humanity and connection can transcend any barrier.
What was planned as a one-hour talk was extended to two and a half hours, in an environment where participation and the exchange of ideas flowed effortlessly. The questions that arose during the session not only demonstrated the genuine interest in the topic, but also gave way to an enriching and deep conversation.
This experience leads me to reflect on the importance of breaking stigmas and prejudices. In every corner, even in the most unexpected places, there are individuals with potential, waiting for the opportunity to grow and contribute positively to society. What they need is support, guidance and above all, the opportunity to access education and training.
Therefore, I want to take this opportunity to reaffirm my commitment to equal opportunities and the promotion of vocational training.
Because it is through education that we can build a more inclusive and equitable future for all.
