Presentation of the study “Emerging economic sectors and professional training in the Barcelona Metropolitan Region: Gastronomic Sector”

On October 23, 2025, I had the opportunity to attend the presentation of the study of the collection “Emerging economic sectors and professional training in the Barcelona Metropolitan Region”, this time dedicated to the gastronomic sector, a key area for our productive fabric, which is immersed in a process of transformation and with a growing need for qualified talent.

The event, organized by the BCN Professional Training Foundation, took place at the Institut Escola d’Hoteleria i Turisme de Barcelona, and was attended by Mr. José Luis Durán, director of the Public Agency for Professional Training and Qualification of Catalonia (FPCAT), as well as Mr. Francisco Ramos Martín, new Secretary of Labor of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

During the presentation, Àngel Tarriño, coordinator of the FP Observatory at the BCN FP Foundation and author of the report together with his team, presented the main conclusions of this study, which analyzes the talent needs, professional profiles and key skills that the gastronomic sector requires to continue being innovative, competitive and a generator of job opportunities.

This work highlights the importance of aligning Vocational Training with new market demands, especially in a sector like gastronomy, which combines tradition, creativity, sustainability and technology. A decisive commitment to FP in this area is, without a doubt, a commitment to the future of our territory and the development of its human capital.
