Closing the Year with Support: The Power of Mentoring in Vocational Training

This week I had my last mentoring session of the year with my Vocational Training student, as part of my volunteer work with the Impulsa Foundation. And there couldn’t have been a better way to end the year.

Mentoring isn’t just about academic guidance or discussing career paths. It’s primarily about listening, building trust, and supporting young people who often just need someone to believe in them and remind them that their path—while not always easy—has meaning and a future.

Throughout this year, we’ve talked about studies, doubts, fears, motivation, effort, and decisions. But also about values, commitment, and the importance of Vocational Training as a real, dignified, and opportunity-filled path.

Ending the year with this final mentoring session reaffirms something I’m very clear about: investing time in young people is one of the best investments we can make as a society. Vocational Training needs role models, support, and partnerships between organizations, companies, and committed individuals.

Thanks to the Impulsa Foundation for making this mentoring program possible and for believing in volunteering as a tool for social transformation. And thanks, especially, to my student, for his attitude, his effort, and for reminding me every day why it’s worth continuing to invest in Vocational Training.

We closed out the year supporting others. We open the next one with enthusiasm and purpose.
