Visiting AFONVI and spending a day with its president, Luis Felipe Falaghan Herrero, was an incredibly enriching experience, both professionally and personally.
During my recent visit to Bilbao, I had the opportunity to present my book, “Building Dual Paths,” and to learn firsthand about the concerns, challenges, and significant opportunities currently facing the plumbing, HVAC, gas, refrigeration, and technical installations sector in Bizkaia.
AFONVI, founded in 1979, has established itself as one of the leading associations in Spain for the defense, professionalization, and development of the energy and water installations sector. Its work goes far beyond traditional association activities, demonstrating a clear commitment to continuous training, innovation, sustainability, and generational succession.
It was especially inspiring to learn how the organization promotes specialized training programs in air conditioning, renewable energy, aerothermal energy, ventilation, fluorinated gases, low voltage, and heating, working alongside vocational training centers and companies to prepare the future professionals our country will need.
At a time when the energy transition is already a reality, associations like AFONVI demonstrate that sustainability and training must go hand in hand. The future of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and decarbonization will depend largely on the technical talent being developed today in our classrooms and companies.
Furthermore, the excellent level of association leadership under Luis Felipe Falaghan Herrero is admirable, providing real value to the entire professional community, fostering sectoral unity, technological updates, and institutional representation for installation companies.
My sincerest thanks for the warm welcome I received in Bilbao, for the exchange of ideas, and for continuing to defend the trades, vocational training, and the future of technical professions with such passion.
