Vocational Education and Training is experiencing a decisive moment. More and more young people are discovering that VET is not only a pathway to employment but also a journey of personal growth, self-esteem, and professional development. A few days ago, I had the privilege of sharing this vision in an inspiring session with middle-level and PFI students from the Institut Tecnològic de Barcelona (ITB), thanks to the collaboration of FERMAX, a company deeply committed to talent development.

ITB: A young centre that has become a benchmark in Catalonia and Spain
Located in Nou Barris, the ITB has built, in just eight years, a strong identity founded on innovation, quality, and a solid commitment to technological education.
Its director, Alberto Vila, was recently awarded the Medal of Honour of the City of Barcelona, a recognition of his leadership and vision. Vila is, without doubt, the driving force behind a project that has positioned ITB at the forefront of technology education.
One of its flagship initiatives is “Nuvulet”, an in-house data center and internal cloud, designed as a real training environment for students.
The centre has also been recognised as a Centre of Excellence, among many other distinctions, consolidating its role as one of the great assets of the Barcelona Education Consortium.
FERMAX: A company truly committed to VET
My participation was made possible through the collaboration with FERMAX, a leading company in communication and access solutions. Its commitment to VET is tangible and aligned with the needs of the sector.
Together, we share the conviction that investing in today’s learners is the best way to strengthen tomorrow’s industry.
A session to reinforce self-esteem and the true value of skilled professions
During the session, I highlighted three key ideas:
- VET has prestige, relevance and a promising future.
Technical and practical profiles are increasingly in demand. - All professions and trades have immense value.
Progress depends on skilled professionals. - Self-esteem is essential.
Believing in one’s abilities is the foundation for building a solid professional future.
My small contribution
I left ITB with the satisfaction of having contributed —even modestly— to inspiring young people who represent the next generation of technicians, professionals and innovators. A rewarding experience that reaffirms the importance of strengthening VET for the future.
