Over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to visit numerous Vocational Training centers, installation companies, distributors, manufacturers, and other entities within the electrical ecosystem throughout virtually all of Spain. And one conclusion is repeated in every conversation, in every classroom, and in every company: the new Vocational Training is no longer an option; it’s the cornerstone upon which the future of the sector will be built.

The transformation underway in Vocational Training is neither cosmetic nor temporary. It’s profound, structural, and, above all, irreversible. The new law has introduced a model that connects education with industry, dignifies technical trades, and places students at the heart of a real professional pathway. But this progress will only be effective if all stakeholders decide to move at the same pace.

A sector that needs talent… And it needs it now.
The electricity sector has been grappling for years with a difficult-to-justify paradox: there is more work than ever, but a shortage of professionals to do it.

The energy transition, the digitalization of facilities, the electrification of processes, and the growing demand for technical profiles have strained the value chain. Companies are looking for talent and can’t find it as quickly as they need. Meanwhile, thousands of young people remain unaware of the real opportunities that vocational training (FP) offers in our sector.
This is where the new Vocational Training can make all the difference.

Vocational Training as a bridge between two worlds that must understand each other.

The new training model brings students closer to the business world from day one. It doesn’t just teach technical content: it teaches professional culture, habits, skills, and a vision for the future. But for this connection to work, it’s not enough for educational institutions to simply do their part.

—Companies must understand that developing talent is a strategic investment, not a favor.

—Institutions need support, resources, and a stable relationship with the business community. –Sectoral associations must lead spaces for coordination and anticipation.

–Society must overcome prejudices that have hindered the choice of technical career paths for decades.

Because the reality is clear: without technicians, there are no facilities, no maintenance, no energy transition, and no competitiveness.

Reasons to believe in change
Despite the challenges, there are reasons to be optimistic. On every visit, I meet committed teachers, companies that have already understood the importance of opening their doors, and young people who are discovering in Vocational Training a solid path to build their future. The talent exists. The potential does too.

What’s lacking is acceleration.

A collective challenge that will define the future of the sector
The electricity sector faces a historic opportunity: to make Vocational Training the engine of generational renewal and industrial competitiveness, although this opportunity will not materialize on its own. It requires coordination, vision, and real commitment from everyone.
The new Vocational Training doesn’t just train workers; it trains professionals capable of adapting to a technological, sustainable, and constantly evolving world. And that is the value we must protect, promote, and communicate.

We cannot afford to be late.

Not this time.

The future of the electricity sector will depend, to a large extent, on what we do today with Vocational Training. And only through collaborative work can we transform this challenge into a shared opportunity.

I recently had the opportunity to deliver an online training course with Alberto Jiménez, director of BAXI Training, from the BAXI Training Center in Madrid. This center has become a leading resource for installers, instructors, and vocational training students seeking to update their knowledge in renewable energy, efficient HVAC, and new technologies applied to the sector.

The training session focused on two complementary perspectives:

1. The technical aspect: the new solutions in the BAXI portfolio
   Alberto presented the technologies that are shaping the present and future of the sector:

Next-generation aerothermal systems
Hybrid systems
Digital integration and connectivity
Renewable solutions for heating, cooling, and domestic hot water
New efficiency and sustainability requirements

2. My contribution: Do you know how the new Vocational Training regulations affect you if you work in heating, cooling, and air conditioning?
   Organic Law 3/2022 on Vocational Training has changed the game. We’re no longer just talking about studying or not studying Vocational Training. We’re talking about something much deeper: the accreditation of professional skills the obligation to demonstrate qualifications the real connection between companies, installers, and the education system

If you work in heating, cooling, and air conditioning, this directly affects you.

The sector is undergoing a rapid transformation due to the energy transition, digitalization, and the growing demand for qualified professionals. The new Vocational Training (FP) program is here to organize, professionalize, and officially recognize what many installers have been doing for years without a formal qualification.

What does this mean for you as a professional in the sector?
You will be able to officially accredit your experience through flexible procedures.
Companies will be able to certify the qualification level of their teams.
Installers will have access to updated and modular training programs.
Vocational training becomes a continuous, dual system connected to the business world.
Technological updates are no longer optional: they are part of the training model itself.
In a sector where aerothermal energy, energy efficiency, and digitalization are advancing rapidly, training is no longer a competitive advantage: it is a professional necessity.

And in this context, technicians trained in Intermediate and Advanced Vocational Training programs are—and will continue to be—essential professionals.

This is where the Fenie Energy Foundation plays a key role. With this in mind, I had the opportunity to visit IES Estelas de Cantabria to hold a technical and motivational session with students in Intermediate and Advanced Vocational Training programs.

My objective was clear: to listen to their perceptions of technical studies, understand their concerns, and share with them a realistic view of the sector based on my professional experience.

Vocational Training as an Engine for Technical Talent
During the session, we analyzed how vocational training has become a strategic pathway to access highly sought-after professions in fields such as:

Industrial automation and control
Electrical installations and renewable energy
Networks, systems, and cybersecurity
Maintenance and technical support
Integration of IoT solutions and Smart Buildings
The students showed great interest in learning how these areas are evolving and what skills will be key in the coming years.

Technical and transversal skills that will shape their future
I shared with them a practical perspective on the skills that companies are currently seeking:

Vocational training is an essential component in the development of technical talent in Spain. Visiting centers like IES Estelas de Cantabria confirms that there is a generation that is prepared, curious, and eager to contribute. If we continue to connect education, business, and technology, we will be building a solid professional future for them.

The event, held at the Gibaix headquarters and featuring more than 700 m² of outdoor exhibition space, gathered manufacturers, distributors, live demonstrations and activities specifically designed for installation professionals. A key meeting point to understand where our sector is heading and how we can continue strengthening it through collaboration and shared knowledge.

We also had the institutional presence of CONAIF President Francisco Alonso, Director Ana García, and Luis María Franco, Head of Training, reinforcing the joint commitment to professional qualification and the development of the installation sector.

This year’s edition stood out thanks to Álex Zsurzs and Dani from Constructipp, who brought energy and interaction with their flaring challenge, where attendees could compete to beat their time and win a guaranteed prize.

The TrobaFira also included several initiatives that added great value for participants:
